{"id":2857,"date":"2018-10-30T12:05:11","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T12:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.ilcastagno.net\/attivita-borghi-storici-del-territorio-certaldo\/"},"modified":"2019-04-10T11:16:21","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T09:16:21","slug":"activity-historic-towns-of-the-territory-certaldo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ilcastagno.net\/en\/activity-historic-towns-of-the-territory-certaldo\/","title":{"rendered":"Historic towns of the territory &#8211; Certaldo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A historic village of ancient origins, located in the center of Valdelsa, near Florence,\u00a0<strong>Certaldo<\/strong>\u00a0is surrounded by rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive trees that are crossed by numerous nature trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking.<br \/>\nFrom the highest part of the town you can enjoy a\u00a0<strong>wonderful view<\/strong>\u00a0over the valley and the surrounding countryside, a truly impressive landscape.<br \/>\nCertaldo boasts a\u00a0<strong>medieval and renaissance glorious past<\/strong>\u00a0which is still imprinted on the defensive walls around the old town and along its main street: the proper town square on which are placed all the civil and religious buildings essential to the public life of the time.<br \/>\nCertaldo is a symbol of the\u00a0<strong>Praetorian Palace<\/strong>, former residence of the city government and it is now possible to visit the prisons, the archive, the audience hall, the chapel and the private apartments.<br \/>\nCertaldo is<strong>\u00a0home to Boccaccio<\/strong>, the author of the Decameron, and in his honor are held every year several events focused on reading his book. The birthplace of this man of letters has also been turned into a\u00a0<strong>museum and study center<\/strong>\u00a0where are preserved some rare illustrated editions of the Decameron.<br \/>\nA must see is also the former Augustinian convent of the &#8216;400 that houses the local<strong>\u00a0Sacred Art Museum<\/strong>.
